Family and caregiver financial planning

Protect both the person receiving support and the people whose income or time makes that support possible.

Two distinct applicants

The applicant receiving care and the caregiver may need different cover. Hospitalization insurance, life protection and emergency savings solve different problems. A caregiver relationship does not itself create a policy benefit.

Plan for interrupted support

Consider what happens if a caregiver is ill, injured or unable to work. Estimate replacement support costs and identify trusted backup arrangements. A death benefit or savings plan should be evaluated separately from medical reimbursement.

Check allowances and authority

Ask whether an attendant allowance, caregiver benefit or respite provision exists and what event triggers it. Keep nominee details and authorisations up to date. For trusts, guardianship and succession decisions, obtain qualified legal and financial advice.

Protect privacy

Agree what information can be shared and with whom. Help the applicant understand the form in their preferred format. This reference records assistance consent separately and does not establish real legal authority.

Questions to take with you

  • Who is insured under each benefit?
  • What triggers a caregiver allowance?
  • Who can assist without taking over the decision?
